PSLE scoring: Achievement Levels and the PSLE Score
For parents in Singapore. Each PSLE subject is graded in Achievement Levels (AL 1 to AL 8), and the four ALs add up to the PSLE Score. Facts from MOE and SEAB, with the date we checked.
Checked on Mon 19 Oct 2026 against the official pages below. Dates and fees can change, so confirm on the official site before applying.
Achievement Levels for Standard subjects
| AL | Percentage score range |
|---|---|
| AL 1 | ≥ 90 |
| AL 2 | 85 – 89 |
| AL 3 | 80 – 84 |
| AL 4 | 75 – 79 |
| AL 5 | 65 – 74 |
| AL 6 | 45 – 64 |
| AL 7 | 20 – 44 |
| AL 8 | < 20 |
The PSLE Score
Each of the four subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue) gets one AL. The PSLE Score is the sum of the four, from 4 (the best possible) to 32.
MOE's example: English AL 3, Mother Tongue AL 2, Mathematics AL 1, Science AL 2 gives a PSLE Score of 8.
Foundation level subjects are graded AL A to AL C.
SEAB: the PSLE does not use pass or fail; results show which programme each student is ready for.
Practise with Pencilhop
Practise the arithmetic behind Mathematics with worksheets that mark themselves, and timed times-table sprints. Pencilhop's scores are practice only, never a prediction of a PSLE AL.
